Background Information

This content from Wikipedia has been selected by SOS Children for suitability in schools around the world. To compare sponsorship charities this is the best sponsorship link.

The definition of a country or territory is surprisingly complicated as a topic. In some places countries are constituents of a state (as in the United Kingdom comprised of four countries) whereas in North America states make up countries. It is also not entirely consistent which countries are in Europe versus Asia and the Middle East versus Africa. We have chosen a user-friendly approach to indexing subjects where we include anything someone might look for in a content section even if technically it should not be there.
